The new GalleryPouch™ Gold bubble bags from Frame Destination Inc. were specifically designed to protect fine art during storage and transportation. Made from transparent, heavyweight, laminated 3/16-in. polyethylene bubble, these premium bags can be used for shipping mounted, matted, or framed prints, stretcher bars (with or without canvas), frames, mixed-media, and valuables such as china, sculptures, or even camera lenses.
The bubbles that provide the protective cushioning are difficult to pop, because they aren’t exposed. Both sides of the bubble bags are smooth, making it easy to slip the artwork into the bag for shipping, storage, or transport. Two options are available.
GalleryPouch™ Gold w/ Velcro® features an adjustable self-adhesive Velcro® sealing option so you can adjust the height of the bag as needed. After placing the art in the bag, simply remove the adhesive backing from the Velcro® strip and adhere the Velcro® to the front of the bag.
GalleryPouch™ Gold w/ Flap is more like an pre-sized envelope. You can seal the flap closed with packing tape or other fasteners.
Photographer, author and consultant Andrew Darlow came up with the idea after he finished producing ten 40 x 40-in.stretched canvas prints for a client. He soon discovered, “It was a nightmare to properly protect the work for shipping. I ended up using 48-inch-wide bubble material with a lot of packing tape, which concerned me due to the fragility of the canvas. I knew there must be a better way, so I contacted Frame Destination and asked if they could produce large, custom-sized bubble bags that were re-sealable. After many e-mails, phone calls and prototypes, GalleryPouch™ Gold was born.”
Darlow adds that “While we were developing the final product, I had two exhibitions of large photographs printed on canvas, including some as large as 38 x 70 in. Frame Destination created a custom bubble bag for every one, greatly cutting down on the time needed to pack up the prints for transport. Having each print in a see-through bag also made it easy for me to determine placement on the gallery's walls while keeping the work protected."
Mark Rogers, founder and President of Frame Destination believes GalleryPouch™ Gold fulfills a need voiced by many other photographers, galleries, and artists who frequently ship their works to exhibitions, art shows, art publishers, and giclĂ©e printmakers, and buyers.
The online ordering system at Frame Destination includes a wide range of stock sizes, as well as custom sizes up to 50 x 156 inches. There is no minimum purchase and you may request the bag opening to be on the long or short side. The Gallery Pouch website contains instructional videos, tips, and answers to frequently asked questions.
One photographer who recently bought the GalleryPouch bubble bags is Josh Trefethen, who blogged about finding his 40 x 60 in. canvas prints covered with mold after he had hurriedly packed them in slightly damp fabric bags after the conclusion of an art show. When he forgot to unpack them immediately after returning home, he was surprised to see how widespread the mold was. He believes the damage could have been prevented had he used the GalleryPouch Gold bubble bags instead
